Bob Simon
In December of 2000, Bob Simon, who had been working with the
Israeli investigation preparing a 60 minutes piece on A Dura,
produced a segment that put the entire thing in the context of
Netzarim Junction, and had the Israelis doing their investigation, trying
to erase that image so that they could continue to justify their
settlements. As for the investigation, he dismissed it in a sentence –
“but they had made up their minds before they fired a shot…”. He did
not mention key findings, especially the fact that the only two bullets
to hit the wall in the footage that we see, were fired from the
Palestinian side. In this excerpt, from the beginning of the show, we
see him use a pastiche of Pallywood scenes to support the astounding
claim that “over thirty were killed and hundreds wounded.” At the
time, the Palestinians only claimed three dead, but over the month this
has become inflated by a factor of 10. (If he meant deaths since then
to present, he would have said, “thirty have been killed…”)
